Direction Finding with SRV nodes
02/08/08 at 2:24pm

As a project, I was looking into putting up to 3 SRV1 (not Blackfin) nodes in a field to survey temperatures. I want them to able to know where each other are in the field relative to one another. I also thought it would be interesting to have them act as relays to the 'base station', if one is out of range (but I did some initial reading on Xbee and I think that it might do that anyways).  For rudimentary direction finding, is there a way to measure signal strength with the Xbee Pro module (and if so, how do go about modifying the Xbee firmware to send this info out)? If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be great.

We actually routed the RSSI output from the XBee to one of the GPIO pins on the ARM7.  Here are the details -

Here's the ARM7 controller schematic.  We actually routed RSSI from the XBee to P0.06 on the ARM7 on the circuit board -

It's unfortunate that there isn't a similar RSSI output from the Matchport WLAN modules.  It would be a nice feature.
