Can't connect
04/12/10 at 8:49pm

Just got an SRV-1 Camera/Radio.  I've been trying to connect to my IBM T60 thinkpad.  I can see the SRV when I look for wireless nets, if I try to connect, it fails.  I can connect to my own 11b network, and one other that is in range.  I see that SRV is an 11g, and another net is also an 11g.  I can't connect to the other open net either (might be another reason).  Does the SRV require an 11g?  My adapter (built-in) is an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network connection.

Thanks!

The Matchport is probably configured for 11g.

Update, the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG  says it will do a,b,g; although maybe it's not configured to do g at this point.

Can the SRV be programmed to do b?

Thanks!

I don't see anything in the setup menu specific to b/g other than perhaps the maximum data rate which is set in the WLAN (4) menu.

So what do I need to make this work?  Is there something I should read?  I looked at the Matchport and SRV install docs.

The SRV WiFi is "open" and my PC (and WiFi net) is "closed" (or secured, whatever).  Do I have to set a WIP (or other) password to match my net?

I'm really not that familiar with all the network stuff (as you've probably noticed).

Humm, does the Java Console need to be installed/running first?  But the setup talks about opening up a web page.

Thanks!

Sometimes adhoc just doesn't work and you have to connect to the robot via a wifi access point.

Do you know the SSID and IP address range of your wifi net ?  With that information, you may be able to reconfigure the Matchport to connect.  That's actually a better approach - "infrastructure" networks with access points generally have much better performance than adhoc networks.

I can probably find the SSID and IP address.  Address Range?   Then I am to assign an address in that range?  I should connect via serial (so that's why the little board was included), and set up infrastructure?

Will I be able to connect to the SRV from my desktop machines then?   (sure could use a broad tutorial on this stuff).  Maybe there is a current Dell (gasp) laptop machine that is known to connect?

Wifi access point?  I have a wireless router that was installed when I got DSL.

Thanks!

Yes - this is exactly what you need to do.  You will need the address range because you need to assign a static IP address to the Matchport.  See this link for serial configuration of the Matchport -

OK, got an FTDI USB-Serial cable (TTL-232R-3V3) made up.  Powered up the BlackFin, and after two terminal emulators, got the "status" dump for this version.

Software version V6.5.0.0GE (080331) .

The "Change Setup" menu looks the same, and under '4' I found and changed to infrastructure and put in my LAN's SSID.  Never saw sub net mask or default gateway.  Item '5' is nothing like one in the referenced serial setup.

I'm lost!  Is there instructions for this newer (?) V6.5?

Thanks,

Alan KM6VV

EDIT:

Found IP and a gateway parameters in "server" and set them.  Don't know all the answers.  Do I need DNS?  Do I need security (WEP64), same as I would do for my notebook?

All of the settings you need to change are here -
    http://www.surveyor.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1200515001

You shouldn't have to change the subnet mask, and you won't be using DNS or a gateway with this device.  If you have WEP configured on your access point, you'll have to configure it as well on the Matchport.

I checked that page, but the parameters don't match up.

DNS off.  I have IP and gateway set.  WEP matches.

Wait, is SSID still set to SRV1, or set to MY LAN?

That's what I've got.  Still no connection.

Network is 2-wire.  I've got the password set.

What can tell me what is going on?  No error messages to help!

Thanks,

Sorry - I meant that SSID for the Matchport should be the same as SSID for your wifi access point.
