Serial

Dear forum members,

I cannot regretfully connect to the robot anymore. I am afraid its static IP address has changed by someone and I don't know in which net it is. So, I want to connect to it through serial. I have a sparkfin 3.3V USB-serial adapter, but which pins do I need to address on the robot? It seems that I can only do this if I have the expansion board http://surveyor-corporation.stores.yahoo.net/srrcmexbo.html of 175 dollars? In that case I would buy the demo kit from Lantronix itself http://store.lantronix.com/product_p/mp10010nmk-01.htm

I have been looking through the schematics and found the document describing the pins to connect through serial at http://www.surveyor.com/blackfin/bfin-srv1-signals.txt and regarding its title I am afraid that I cannot go through serial except for either option mentioned above.

However, maybe I miss something stupid, any help appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

PS: I read the entire thread http://www.surveyor.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1200515001/45

Some clarifications are needed:

Are you connecting to the SRV BFin controller board direct through the serial port or through the Matchport radio (Radio/Motor board)?

If direct through serial are you going through UART1 or 2?

I always went through the Matchport radio. However, something is wrong with the radio, so now I want to connect through serial. And I don't know how!

Are you open to try and figure out what is up with the radio first? We can get connected easily if the radio works.

What is the radio doing/not doing? How do you connect to the radio to check/change settings?

Dear T. Jump,

Yes, I am open to try anything. I just don't know how to connect physically to anything on the robot. I don't know how to connect through UART 1 nor 2. That's what I want to figure out.

Thanks!

And just to make clear, not UART over wireless of course. I suspect the Matchport to be failing, so that's pretty pointless. I want the real thing, I want to know to which pins I can connect physically. And I don't have the extension board. So I don't have the S32 connector.

I feel stupid. Does everyone know which pins are UART except for me?

A couple of things.

First, if you are using an SRV you have an S32 header. It is the 2x16 row of pins sticking out the bottom at the end of the board opposite the camera (which attaches to an S32 socket... holes instead of pins).

Next, the function of each pin is easily determined through the SRV-1 schematic (found on the Surveyor website under the Blackfin Camera link from the left menu... just scroll down once you have entered the Blackfin Camera link and you will find a link to schematics).

Now, to connect to anything you will either need to make connectors or solder leads depending on if you have access to the actual header pins or just the tails. If you are using a radio/motor board you can make connections to the header pins coming through the board (this is what the expansion board connects to... again an S32 header).

Back to your radio: boot your robot and tell me what pattern you get on the LEDs atop the SRV.
