Can you recommend a camera with the TransitRCM?
There isn't a camera on the marketplace that we've come across that does not work with the TransitRCM. In general, you should look at specifications for light sensitivity and horizontal resolution to match to your application, but as long as the camera can be mounted with a 1/4"-20 bolt, it should be compatible.

With which operating systems is TransitRCM compatible?
TransitRCM has been successfully tested on Windows 95/98/NT and Linux operating systems. Given the simple nature of the serial interface and command set, TransitRCM should be compatible with any operating system.

What software comes with TransitRCM?
TransitRCM comes with award-winning, Webcam32 software. Created in 1996, Webcam32 is the most mature, robust and continually evolving webcam software on the market. To learn more about Webcam32, visit the "Webcam32" page on this site.

How far from my computer can I place TransitRCM?
We've tested distances as far as 100ft using shielded twisted pair for the serial connection and good quality shielded video cable for the camera feed.

What type of setup do you have for your OfficeCam webcam at Surveyor's live demo cams?
We have 2 cameras with TransitRCM pan/tilt mounts connected to the same computer. The cameras are $200 generic CCTV models with 6mm and 8mm fixed focus lenses. The computer is a generic Celeron 333 running Linux and Apache. For video capture, we're also using low-cost components - the specific model board is a PixelView 878 (based on Brooktree 848/878 chipset). The computer is attached to our main T-1 ISP connection.

Is TransitRCM weatherproof?
TransitRCM is not weatherproof as shipped, but we've used it very successfully outdoors with a weatherproof dome.

What enclosures do you recommend?
We took a budget approach to our outdoor enclosure, purchasing a 12" outdoor light dome and mounting from a local lighting supply shop for about $40. Commercial enclosures, however, are available from firms such as Videolarm (http://www.videolarm.com), which produces an outdoor dome with a heater/blower option. Figure on paying $300-$400 for one of their setups.

What temperature/humidity ranges are recommended?
TransitRCM should operate without difficulty in temperatures up to 90°F (32°C) with 0-90% humidity. In more extreme conditions, TransitRCM's limitations should match the limitations of the supported cameras.

Where can I see a live demo of Surveyor's TransitRCM?
