Local and online help

Webcam32 provides both local and online help.  By pressing F1 (function key 1) within Webcam32, a help window is displayed showing information on the dialog being viewed.  The data file containing the help is not supplied by default.  It must be downloaded and saved in the Webcam32 install directory (usually C:\Program Files\Surveyor Corporation\Webcam32).  The help was not included with the basic package because of its size and the availability of the same help information on the web.

The help data is in Microsoft HTML Help format.  This requires the installation of Internet Explorer V4.0 prior to viewing the help locally.  Since it is understood that not all users will have Internet Explorer V4.0 installed, the on-line web based help will continue to be kept up-to-date with the downloadable data.

The decision to use the Microsoft HTML Help format was chosen over classic WinHelp (.hlp) format for a number of reasons:

Q. When I try and use the Webcam32 local help, I get an error

You need a newer version of hhctrl.ocx to be able to read this file

How do I resolve this?

A. Microsoft periodically release new versions of their HTML Help ActiveX control.  Webcam32 is compiled with the latest available.  To download a compatible version, visit here.

4/22/1999 The 1.21 version of the HTML Help controls are now available from Microsoft.  These controls are used to display the local help.  If you have problems displaying the Webcam32 local help or simply wish to take advantage of the new features of the 1.21 versions of HTML Help, the 1.21 upgrade can be downloaded here.

The HTML Help file is supplied ZIPed.  It should be downloaded and un-zipped into the Webcam32 install directory.
