A web page usually contains images which have been manually uploaded to the webserver (the software which serves the web pages to the browsers). Webcam32 can refresh image on the webserver with images captured directly from the capture hardware. These new images can be uploaded to the web over the Internet using FTP. Webcam32 can be configured to periodically grab a new image and then upload. The net effect is that the image on the page can be seen to refresh every configurable period ranging from a few seconds to a few hours.

For more advanced users, Webcam32 has a range of streaming technologies. Streaming is the term given to the continuous refresh of images on the browser in near real-time. If network bandwidth allows, the effect is similar to having a live video feed embedded in the web page.

For many users, saving a copy of the images uploaded or transmitted to the Internet is desirable.
