Preferences


The Preferences dialog allows you to configure your Webcam32 settings using a tree diagram to display all features. This section contains a brief description of each item found in the preferences menu.


TCP/IP

Webcam32 supports direct HTTP requests. When a browser accesses Webcam32, Webcam32 can obtain and serve an image directly to the browser.

  • Features - Enables or disables HTTP accesable features
  • Access - Displays HTTP access settings
  • Server Push - Displays settings specific to streaming video
  • Admin - Displays remote administration settings


Dialup

Automated ISP settings. The Dial-Up networking capability of Webcam32 allows the product to automatically dial a previously defined dialup configuration and connect via modem to an Internet Service Provider or other network service.  For more information, click here.


FTP

Webcam32 can be configured to automatically obtain and transmit a captured image to an FTP server. For more information, click here.


WebCamSat

Automated web hosting setup. For more information, click here. Webcamsat is a beta feature of Webcam32 designed to host streaming video. It is not provided in most versions of Webcam32, and is still under development. Usage should be limited to advanced Webcam32 users. For more information, click here.


Device

Device settings are generated by the capture device itself. The settings and information in these dialogs cannot be accessed or saved by webcam32, and are specific to the camera/capture board.

  • Format - Controls the format of the video capture such as size, colors and zoom modes
  • Source - Controls the settings for the video capture such as contrast, brightness and white balance
  • Display - Controls the settings for the video "display" interface, if supported by the camera
  • Overlay - Controls the hardware overlay mode of the video capture, if supported by the camera

  • Image

    The Image menu controls Webcam32 software image processing. This emulates many things under DEVICE, but also adds functionality.

    • Video - Sets the JPEG compression quality as a percentage.  0 is worst, 100 is perfect.  The lower the quality, the smaller the transferred image.  Additionally, advanced settings may be changed.  More information on video settings is available here.
    • Graphics - Image manipulation including rotation, gray scale conversion, and image processing DLLs.
    • Captions - Sets the caption information including visibility (default off), color and position.
    • Advanced Caption - Advanced positioning and advanced overlay settings.


    Notification

    Notification menus give Webcam32 users advanced warning of capture, FTP, and the ability to analyze capture history.

    • Change History - Displays the previous delta image changes. For more information, click here.
    • Warnings - Sets the sound and wait period for client requests.  A sound can be played when a client requests an image.  Additionally, a pause can be introduced before the image is captured and transferred to the client. For more information, click here.
    • Countdown - Displays resizable dialog counting down to the next FTP upload.


    Capture

    apture preferences allow configuration of image capture methods other than FTP, viewing captured images on the fly, saving movie files, and using still images in place of a capture device.

    • Local Saves - Images captured and sent by Webcam32 to a Web browser of FTP server may also be captured and saved locally to disk. For more information, click here.
    • Frames - Displays previously uploaded frames. For more information, click here.
    • Still Grab - Grab and display a still image for saving. For more information, click here.
    • AVI - Opens the AVI settings dialog. For more information, click here.
    • ImageCycle - Opens the Image Cycler dialog. For more information, click here.


    Camera Cycler

    By using the Camera Cycler, if multiple cameras are connected to a PC running Webcam32, the camera acting as a source of images for Webcam32 processing can be dynamically changed automatically.


    RCM

    Webcam32 supports a Remote Camera Mount (RCM) from Surveyor Corporation.

    An RCM is a physical piece of hardware which connects to a PC's serial port.  A video capture camera can be easily attached to the RCM.  Under software control, the RCM can pan and tilt the camera.

    The Webcam32 support provides the ability to control the RCM from within the Webcam32 application.  From the RCM Preferences menu, select RCM Control.


    Audio

    The Audio feature allows Webcam32 to stream audio at various bit rates through a TCP/IP connection using Webcam32's HTTP server and a Java applet. Bit rates, user count, stream interval and bandwidth usage of the audio feature can be controlled from here.


    Chat

    The Chat feature enables text chat transfer through Webcam32's HTTP server providing remote chat display in the form of a multiple frame HTML document. Number of users, local login name, and number of messages displayed can be controlled from here. The display is also available from this menu, so the webcam32 user can log on to the chat server locally.


    Display/Password Controls

    Formerly titled Controls, this feature allows specialized Webcam32 settings to be changed.


    Debug

    Controls of the debug output from Webcam32. Debugging provides a text file with extra information about the state and activities of webcam32 during operation. The preferences allow specific categories of debugging to be activated or deactivated.
