Webcam32 Remote Administration

Webcam32 has the ability to provide remote administration.  By pointing a browser at the machine running Webcam32, a page will be displayed which allows changes to be remotely made to a running Webcam32 instance.

To prevent unauthorized modification, the browser will prompt for a userid and password to ensure that you have sufficient authority to actually make the changes.  The userid, password and the enabled status of remote administration can be set on the machine running Webcam32 by selecting the Administration option in the Settings menu.  The TCP/IP port number to which the request for admin access should be made is specified in the Webcam32 TCP/IP preferences.

Example of use:

Point your browser at http://127.0.0.1:8888/admin on the machine running Webcam32.

If an invalid userid or password is supplied by the browser, a warning message is displayed locally from Webcam32.

Userid and Password authorization

When using Microsoft Internet Explorer, the following dialog will be presented by the browser for entering the userid and password to gain access to Webcam32 authorization:

Note: In releases of Webcam32 prior to V4.8.3, it was possible to over-run an internal memory buffer within the product.  This problem has been resolved in V4.8.3 as well as providing alternate port numbers as well as the ability to disable remote administration completely.  The effect of over-running the internal buffer was usually to cause Webcam32 to crash.  This could only be exploited by a hacker who knew the IP address on which Webcam32 was running.
